Before His Throne
"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." - Hebrews 4:16
Prepared for holiness, judgment, majesty, and power...this is God's throne in
Heaven. In His Word we learn that God's throne is surrounded by clouds and
darkness and set in front of it is a sea of glass like unto crystal with
ligthenings, thunderings, voices, and a pure river of water of life, clear as
crystal, proceeding out. It's from His throne that the Almighty King of Kings
executes His perfect order as "righteousness and judgment are the habitation of
his throne." (Psalm 97:2) Isaiah saw the Lord on His throne and cried, "Woe is
me! for I am undone...for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts."
(Isaiah 6:5) The good news today is that when Jesus Christ ascended on high as
our flawless High Priest we were instantly given an unfathomable opportunity to
access His divine throne as He now calls us to "come boldly unto the throne of
grace". The very throne which was once reserved only for the King Himself has
been exposed to every unworthy sinner who has inherited His royal lineage; and
we are even told that "to him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my
throne". (Revelation 3:21) The very thought of approaching His majestic throne
in our sinful condition is dreadful and how much more so the thought of
approaching it with expectations of being seated! Yet His call to come boldly
is a call to come assuredly. We should think to fall down on our face dead
before His throne, yet we are boldly invited to sit with Him and experience the
most intimate fellowship with God ever known. While our King executes perfect
judgment and wrath from His throne so too does He extend His perfect and
immeasurable grace, and every child of His has been assuredly covered by it
for all of eternity. The only cause for our lack of boldness to approach Him on
these grounds is our lack of assurance. Have you yet to approach this place?
Perhaps your lack of assurance is keeping you from coming boldly to His throne,
and rightly so, for if you have yet to experience the miraculous power of His
saving grace then His throne stands as the place from which your judgment will
be delivered. But if you will allow His inexplicable mercy to redeem you from
your sins then you will no longer have to be afraid of approaching, for He is
there, waiting for you to come boldly, and when you do so you will find mercy
to relieve you from the great sin burdens weighing you down and grace to lift
you upwards towards levels of faith you have yet to comprehend. "Let us
therefore come boldly..."
