Conditional Service

Luke 9:57-62
The supernatural commitment required to follow the footsteps of Christ is astonishing and is best illustrated by Jesus' words in verse 62, "No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God." What an incredible challenge Jesus issued in this one statement; who can possibly attain that level of commitment? The word "fit" by Biblical definition literally means "appropriate, meet". Three people in this passage were given the opportunity to follow Christ and the Lord determined that none of them were fit in their condition. Every genuine believer would want to hear the Lord tell them that He has found them to be fit for the Kingdom and yet He tests us constantly to see if we truly are fit. He often asks us to do things that don't necessarily make sense to us in the flesh and we often disobediently question Him and ignore what He has asked us to do. We say that we will serve the Lord......under certain circumstances that is. If there is ANYTHING that you are unwilling to do for the King of the Kingdom then what makes you think that you are fit for the Kingdom? The commitment demanded is definitely supernatural, and that is exactly why the Lord has given all of His true children the Spirit of promise, so we can attain that level of commitment through Him and not ourselves.
