Listen Carefully...to Him
"I will watch to see what he will say...O LORD, I have heard
thy speech, and was afraid" - Habakkuk 2:1, 3:2
There are certainly many voices in the world and all certainly carry a significance (See 1 Cor 14:10), but remember that most will only sever your soul straight from the heart of God. Worldly voices of doubt and disbelief left Habakkuk spiritually distraught. And the same voices today, carrying the same destructive desires, are pursuing you and I. Which are you listening to at this hour? Habakkuk saw these voices dulling his ears to the tone of God and he strove zealously to purge them all..."I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved." (Habakkuk 2:1) From the top of the tallest tower one can not hear even the loudest voice below, and on top of a spiritual tower, separated far from the world and close only to God's voice, is exactly where we need to be! The distance between the pit of worldliness and the life in Christ is tremendous and we will not hear Him if surrounded by the voices below. Climb your spiritual tower and then guard it with all your might! Do whatever it takes to block out the voices in opposition to your Lord and His conviction to your heart! Religious doctrines are some of the most effective tools in the hand of satan and he uses their voices often to tear away at the foundation of a true relationship with Jesus Christ. Many people have fallen in love with beliefs, but not with the Savior. If your beliefs have failed to bring you close to Jesus Christ they are useless. Habakkuk had strong beliefs, but his relationship with the Lord became weak. "...they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus." (Acts 4:13) These religious leaders loved good doctrine (See Matthew 23:3), but had no part of the Savior's Kingdom in them, whereas the beliefs of Peter and John were solid and sound, but only because of their relationship with Jesus Christ. Are you choosing things in life because you have heard the voices saying, "What will your family, friends, and acquaintances say if you really do choose to give all of your life to Christ!?" Get your soul into a place where the opinions of people have NO effect to you. The voice of God is perfectly distinguishable, He will never call your attention to the opinions of others, but only unto a perfect relationship with Him. "Ye have heard that it hath been said...but I say unto you" (Matthew 5:38,39). The voices in the world will often imitate His, but are you able to distinguish them clearly? "He that hath ears to hear, let him hear." (Luke 14:35)
