Living in the Light of His Salvation
"The LORD is my light and my salvation" - Psalm 27:1
It's no secret that darkness exposed to light is immediately dissolved, but we
have to wonder why it is that Christ, the "light of the world" (John 8:12)...
"who is our life" (Colossians 3:4)...can save our very souls from the darkest
of all endings and yet there still remains darkness buried within our souls'
depths. What keeps us from experiencing His cleansing light in every portion of
our lives? How is it that the "law of sin and death" (Romans 8:2) is so quick
to arise and haul us immediately into the defeated life? "If ye then be risen
with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right
hand of God. Set your affection on things above..." (Colossians 3:1,2) Where we
allow our affections to drift absolutely determines where our life will drift,
and our affections reveal in detail our innermost dark places, the portions of
our life we have failed to recall that even God is aware of. Affections are good
when they have been given over to the light of Christ, but how dark they become
when we forsake the seeking of "those things which are above". Living in His
light is often a painful experience...His light is constantly uncovering the
corners and cracks of sin that we have left unattended, even though God has been
convicting us about them all along. It crushes our hearts knowing that we have
failed our greatest Friend, but we can rejoice knowing that "Faithful is he that
calleth you, who also will do it." (1 Thessalonians 5:24) We can be eternally
thankful that Christ alone is the keeper of our souls and the only true light of
life....."Christ, who is our life, shall appear". When the day comes that He
appears in the clouds "and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced
him" (Revelation 1:7) every corner of darkness in every person will be unveiled
entirely by the fire of Jesus Christ Himself. "His eyes were as a flame of fire"
(Revelation 1:14) - what are you hiding from the light of His eyes? "There is
NOTHING covered, that shall not be revealed" (Mathew 10:26) ..."because it shall
be revealed by fire". (1 Corinthians 3:13) Are your affections focused on His
light or are they consumed and covered up in the darkness of the world, only
waiting to be uncovered in due time? Is His salvation truly the light of your
life?
