Hungry for God's Will

"My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work." - John 4:34

What provoked our Lord to absolute faithfulness, even unto the shameful Cross, where He could successfully cry, "It is finished" (John 19:30)? What drove Paul to his place in life where he too could conclude with great joy, "I have finished my course" (2 Timothy 4:7)? Was it not a frantic and raging hunger to consume the will of "him that sent"? How often have we become dry and stale in the work that God has given to us, and in our commitments and promises to Him, only to wonder afterwards "why". How often do we look back on our failures in these areas wishing we would have denied Him but only three times! God has given us each a work to do in our lives, a work He desires to use for His own Glory and to transform our relationship with Him through the midst of it, but the work goes unfinished because we are quick to loose the hunger for it, we starve our souls to the point where the hunger pains are no longer felt...we cease to feed on the will of the Father. We try so hard to satisfy the burning hunger of the soul with every earthly alternative satan offers, none which will ever fulfill. Our Lord abandoned every last craving of the flesh for one simple reason, "I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me." (John 6:38) And did not God place you here that you might experience this very joy? We've all felt Him grasping at our hearts with this same intensity before, maybe through a message preached or through a moment of service, but most people never come to experience it in their every day life. Satan loves to fool people into believing that the work of God lies somewhere off in the distant future as he deceives them into wasting their lives, but Jesus said the fields are "white already to harvest." (John 4:35) Don't allow yourself to think that you are only now training for some future task of the Lord. Recognize that He has a plan for you today and allow the thought of fulfilling His plan to burn your soul with an unappeasable hunger and you will see the greater works of God carried out everyday of your life. How hungry are you for His will? Have you given up all hope of personal dreams and aspirations that you might "finish his work"?
