Clearly Focused
"My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and
give praise." - Psalm 57:7
Focusing on God is simple when we're high up on the mountain tops,
but one of the greatest tests of true intimacy with Christ comes when
we are forced into the caves of life. When David was fleeing from his
foes who wanted to kill him he found himself running from the mountain
tops of life to the darkest cave man could dwell in. However, the
shocking truth about this period in his life wasn't that David was
running from such a situation, rather, it was the place where he was
running to. From one of the coldest caves that life could be lived
within, the man after God's own heart said, "My heart is fixed, O God,
my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise." Focusing on God and
learning to become obedient to Him always comes at a price. Hebrews
5:8 says of our Lord, "Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience
by the things which he suffered". Beware of so-called spirituality that
de-emphasizes the price that must be paid and what it truly means to
be "fixed" on Christ. Have you been forced into the caves recently?
Were you able to say, "My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed"?
When you are forced into a cave always remember the words of Psalm
121, "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh
my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth."
