Leaning on the Everlasting
"Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of His disciples, whom
Jesus loved." John 13:23
Close enough to hear and feel His heartbeat....does that describe
your life with Christ? John was perhaps described as the disciple whom
Jesus loved because of how intensely he was attached to his Savior;
nothing could take him away, not even the possibility of severe
persecution as he stood by the cross on Calvary. Paul would later
display this same heart when he said, "now I go bound in the spirit
to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me
there....but none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear
to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy". (Acts 20:24) We are
misguided by the world into believing that we should be strong enough
to stand on our own, but the truth is that when we're leaning on Him,
on the very bosom of Jesus, that is the time when we are the closest
to the heart of God, being able to hear His pure Words without
hindrance and allowing them to pierce our hearts, "even to the division
of soul and spirit". (Hebrews 4:12) Are you "leaning on Jesus' bosom"?
Can you say, "none of these things move me"?
